Symbiotics

When a meteor crashed in Roswell, New Mexico in the late 1940’s, the United States government created an elaborate cover-up by staging conspiracy theories of an alien UFO crash. In actuality, the meteor itself was a vessel of alien bacterial life we now call the Symbiots. These bacteria communicates telepathically and forms identities by building a bacterial colony. The colony then inhabits a host, where it can do anything from alter the host’s DNA to manipulating matter and energy at levels unseen anywhere else in the universe. Particularly astounding is it’s ability to access darkspace – a sort of semi-present other dimension where the effects of dark matter and dark energy are observed – allowing it to seemingly call matter or energy into existence where there was none before. While generally it performs these actions with a willing host – called a Contractor on the account of the Symbiots strange demands for payment (called Remunerations), they sometimes will forcefully inhabit a being (usually non-sapient beings) to create what we call Daemons. Strangely, the symbiots also always comply to a theme gleamed from the mind of the host it inhabits. Example themes are “Wraith”, “Fire”, “Metal”, “Wind”, “Terror”, and so on.

In Japan, Contractors are legally required to register with the government. Due to the clandestine nature of the Symbiots, however, this is often not done, and it is difficult to identify offenders.

Symbiotics, aka Contracting, is represented with the Symbiotics Skill and an aspect representing it. You may also take stunts for other skills and flavor and justify them with symbiotics. Symbiotics powers must all comply to the symbiot’s Theme.

Any use of the Symbiotics skill or a symbiotics stunt you take a physical stress. On a failure, you may turn it to a success by taking stress and/or consequences totaling the margin of failure. The only way to reduce this stress or begin recovery of consequences from it is by paying your symbiot’s remuneration.
